take 12 rights and 1 left. i'm lost.

Pardon me if my thoughts are not well structured in writing. I'm tired, very occupied in thought, and badly need to write some things off my chest.

I've been thinking about this for awhile. Well, actually it was pretty much since Deb sent me the revised schedule for the classes that will be taught at the school. I noticed that Edwin has stopped teaching the Maths class that happens before and after my session with Group 2 and 3. This had me thinking.
  1. Should I stop teaching Group 2, and take up 2 hours with Group 3?
  2. Or, should I just continue with my hour with Group 2, but add an additional hour for Group 3?
The reason for the first is because, I work better with the older kids (age 14 -17). I have the resources to plan their syllabus, and I can relate better to their level of knowledge and maturity. Besides, with the additional hour, I can use it do go through videos with them be it on historical events, or influential people, an 'activity' for them to be expressive in thought, and to exercise the language while increasing their knowledge on matters like this. I reckon that even the occasional fictional short clip would be good to have then identify the 5 W and 1 H (Who, What, Where, When, Why, How), and structure sentences from there on. On the other hand, I'm not as effective with Group 2 (age 10 -13). What they probably need is phonics. I don't know how to teach phonics, and I can't find the resources to teach phonics.

Based on what was said, it's easy to say, Stef, just do stop teaching Group 2, and take on an additional hour for Group 3 then. Here's the thing, these kids matter to me. I have a feeling from what I've seen so far (with the changes of volunteers and all), that these kids probably don't get much other than what the recommended text has. I am probably the only English teacher who comes up with her own material, and I have to thank the Principal for giving me a relatively freehand to teach my choice of syllabus. If I leave Group 2, chances are they still won't get phonics. But if I don't leave them, it's difficult to make an additional hour for Group 3. So, how? Besides, I can't say I won't miss the younger kids if I stop teaching their class. If I could make more time for them, I would, but I only have one day for them, and there's only so much that can be done in a day.

It seems like a relatively straight forward decision to make, but there is much hessitation. I'm still uncertain. I have a slight inclination to just place all two hours with Group 3, which even then its dependent on whether Deb and the Principal would approve it.

There are other things bugging me, but this is all I'll share. Time for bed. I've got gym in the morning, and a hike after work. God bless me.
