The Malaysian Lion Dance

I love all the festivities in Malaysia. The spirit of it, the food, the empty roads, the colours and the holidays, and the open houses are just some of the reasons why I love it.

Today, I had the chance to watch my first lion dance performance for the year at MidV.

This green/silver one fell down.

The injury on one of the young lads seemed quite serious. But the appreciative crowd clapped on.

When the red lion ended its performance, out came another pair of lions... gold in colour.

And there was this character... I can't remember what is his name.
But boy, it's been awhile since I saw him made an appearance in any lion dance performances. To some extent... I missed him.
And look closely at this next picture...

The drummer is an Indian. I was very impressed to see an Indian playing such a crucial role in a traditional Chinese cultural performance. It felt all too Malaysian, and I have to say, I was beaming with pride.
Happy Chinese New Year! :)
