I love receiving cards and postcards (e-cards don't count). I keep them for years, and I refer to them a few times every year, opening them gingerly so that they will stay in their mint condition for (hopefully) the rest of my life.
I keep hand written letters too. I refer to them as often, but they are handled with more care as the paper is more fragile than cards.
I was just going through some of the cards I have recieved during my time in Adelaide. I wish I could show you the pictures, but not having a laptop has its inconveniences as well, and uploading photos is one of them. Nevertheless, I shall share some of these cards sans picture.
* From Handy
Unlike most cards which would have my name on the envelop, this was blank. Inside was a Christian card. He writes with great honesty on the top left corner...
Dear Stephanie,
Erm... not really a card person, but thought I'd get something to encourage you wherever you may be. So yeah, take care. God bless!
Handy
Everything about this card tells me he's not really a card person. From the way he wrote in one corner leaving the rest of the card looking quite lonely, to the white envoloped with no addressee. But I liked it all the more. He made an effort I would smile on for many more years to come.
* The one from Richard
Quite a lot was written in this one, and some of the contents rather personal. But here's what I can share. It started with... "Dear Mummy". That, just brings back memories of what good friends we were. He was always there for me, and this is one guy who will stick to his principles and his word like no one else I have ever met. I love him and his very lovely wife heaps. :)
* Chen and SS
SS and I were housemates for the most part of my stay in Adelaide. There was a lot written in this card, but the envelop alone imparted a lot of love. On the envelope, in SS's familiar handwritting, it says "Our dear Steffi". They're the only friends of mine who would call me Steffi, and the way it says "Our" was very sweet. :)
In a farewell note when I left Adelaide, it was Chen who took to the pen to write. I was not too familiar with his handwritting, but the way recalls our days were unique only to him. Here's an except of things he remembered:
- the time you (I) were looking for a place with SS
- when I (Chen) rented a van for you to move house
- when I look through your place with SS and you
- when me and SS named your fish Apollolo (it was actually a snail, and it was named Apollo :P)
- when you had the surprise party for Terence at my house
- when we throw pillows at each other
- when you got so shocked at your birthday party
- when we worked together at Easter Camp
- when you helped us out big time for our engagement
- and the countless coffee and nice foods and silly smses
It's almost (if not completely) impossible, not to feel loved reading these cards and notes. I love receiving them, I love to keep them, and I love going through them again. I guess the later of three is what I love most.
So if you ever want to get me something for whatever reason but you don't know what to get, send me a card (no e-card please). :)
